Reset PRAM, apparently that broke CoreDuoTemp sensor because mine is reading 12?C, iStatPro is reading 12? C as well, but smcFanControl is reading 72? C. Week 27 MacBook by the way. So my suggestion is, if your MacBook has no issues or you are fine with how it is running right now, DO NOT UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE.
My Macbook also has false CPU Temp readings with all apps running Speedit. That is CoreDuoTemp, iStat widgets etc...
smcFanControl uses a different sensor. My guess is the new firmware somehow disables the CPU core sensors (there is one in every core) and uses the other one instead. So the values SpeeIt gets refresh only every time you reboot.

What about the iPod OS? Isn't it on the hd, like the Nomad Jukebox of that time? I had one of those and it was easy, if expensive, to find hd larger than the original already formatted including the OS.
I believe that the core of the iPod OS resides in firmware. A bit of research reveals that after replacing the drive as seen here (http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/iPod-Classic-Hard-Drive/564/1), putting the iPod into disk mode and restoring with iTunes will reinstall any missing pieces.
Apple hates physical buttons. No Apple device in the past ten years has ever moved backwards in the drive to eliminate physical buttons.
Button to open laptop display? Gone.
Latches for batteries? Gone.
Trackpad button? Gone.
Physical buttons on the iPod? Six.
Buttons on iPod Touch? Two (Four if you count the volume.)
Buttons for ejectable drives? Never existed.
Dude, you will never again see physical buttons for these things on an iDevice itself.
Why buy new if you intend to void the warranty? This is something I'll probably do in the coming few weeks myself. I think 1.8" HDD development's more or less plateaued as well.
Unfortunately, you are probably right. Though it would be nice to see one last revision of the Classic, I have a feeling that this is the end of the line. Also, a good point on the buy used bit. I tend to forget that the Classic is still two years old as is and used models are readily available on eBay, etc.

Not that I want to see you naked or anything, but I really want a Conroe iMac. Been putting off the intel iMacs for 8 months waiting for this update.
My iMac G5 is great, thanks very much...I would prefer an improved MB with better GPU and a Core 2 Duo inside...this would make me burn some Swiss Francs at once, hehehe..!

That is what people aren't understanding. They see something and imagine it being the same design despite function changing. If they do touchscreen, it won't be long (if not instant) before they redo how it sits on the table.
A design that allows the screen to go relatively flat and vertical is necessary. This design should have been done already 3 years ago.
Surely this new device will be wedged shaped like a large slice of cheese or indeed a very deep keyboard where the keys are the screen....
You would need to use or enhance your LCD to be viewable from a ~45 degree angle. Ideally tweek it so it worked well at an angle rather than square on.

So now Brazil is the one having "aggressive mercantilist policies"?
Why don't you talk about the US's egregiously illegal subsidies to its orange juice, steel and ethanol industries against Brazilian imports of the same products?
In case you don't know about them, just check WTO's website to see the rulings AND appeals that the US has continuously lost against Brazil. Or is it nice to have "free markets" only when you benefit from them?
It's true-- the policy on ethanol, especially, is bad for US consumers. We are subsidizing US corn farmers to product ethanol that ends up using more petroleum to create than is saved in the resulting gasohol. Meanwhile, import controls are keeping out the (actually efficient) ethanol produced in Brazil. At the same time, food prices are rising all over the world due to shortages that could be alleviated if all that US corn became food, rather than fuel. Ethanol in the US has become nothing but an industrial subsidy for agrobiz. Our taxes our subsidizing a tragedy.

I just bought a Macbook Pro literally 5 minutes ago. I've been waiting for months and I finally gave up. After the order was completed, I thought I'd check macrumors just for laughs and the first thing I saw was, "new macbook pros tomorrow?" :(
Relax and enjoy your machine...at most, it's gonna be a speed bump and some new ports, nothing else...not to mention that so far, only hoaxes have published around. I figure Apple is gonna take a while to launch the new MBPs this time...

What's with the focus on 'sold out'? Simply limit your passes well below the projected numbers of participants, and there you go, sold out. It's just a math game and a marketing ploy.
There is no "focus" on sold out.
It is just mentioned to show the interest in Apple by developers.
If you never organized an event, here is (in a simplified way) how it goes:
You find a place an a location/facility based on what you estimate the attendance will be.
(Sometimes you can't even get a facility big enough and have to take what you can get)
That facility will hold a certain amount of people
You promote the event and sell tickets.
Eventually you will sell out or have tickets left over.
No magic in holding back tickets or use smaller facilities to make it look sold out.
There is also a point where too many people would not be able to learn efficiently what is coming.
Why not pack 80,000 developers into New York's Giants Stadium?

Are the new Nanos still going to come with the Samsung Chip? I hope so.
It's a shame that these $65.00 chinese 1GB MP4 players with the Samsung chip have MP3 playback - Video - FM Radio - eBook Reader - Photo Viewer - Voice & FM Recorder, yet the Nano at three times the price does not! ( linky: http://www.uxcell.com/uxcell/retail/item/showItemLayout.php?action=showItem&id=mv0blk1024mp022 or http://www.uxcell.com/uxcell/retail/item/showItemLayout.php?action=showItem&id=mv0wht1024mp029 or http://www.uxcell.com/uxcell/retail/item/showItemLayout.php?action=showItem&id=mv0blk1024mp031 or http://www.uxcell.com/uxcell/retail/item/showItemLayout.php?action=showItem&id=mv0blk1024mp015 or http://www.uxcell.com/uxcell/retail/item/showItemLayout.php?action=showItem&id=mv0blk1024mp035 or http://www.uxcell.com/uxcell/retail/item/showItemLayout.php?action=showItem&id=mv0pur1024mp033 )
The Nano with these features, plus iTMS, will withstand anything coming from Sandisk, MS, Creative, or the cheap Chinese imports.
Bring them on! My kids just can't wait. (me too) :)

As for 'professionals' getting pissy:
I don't think any of them care too much about the new features as much as they care about the speed updates. That's the biggest benefit for them.
The 'quick' editing features are useful for some 'pro' edits, definitely useful for a pro-sumer.
My best friend is an editor in a production house in Hollywood and his concern was that they didn't talk about tape workflow, video in/out cards, 3rd party support or XML-based export - among other things.
Just the concern is that they re-built the app and added a lot of GUI and 'smart' features but they didn't say anything about the dirty nuts & bolts.
So - it's an area of concern.
If Apple did what they did with iMove - re-built it from the ground up and removed features (most of which were re-added in the next version)
Well that would be a concern as the 'new' version wouldn't have support for their existing workflows.
(not workflows like "we like to do things this way" more workflows like "because of how this was shot or because we need to export to this specific tape deck" workflows that you can't really mess with)
It's mundane stuff to 'fans' and 'prosumers' but critical for higher end production houses.
A lot of people (me included) were pretty annoyed when Quicktime X came out with fewer features than QT7 . . .
As for the other reason editors might be grumpy:
Some of their 'work' will be partially replaced by smart features.
So they might worry that their exec sees this and gets rid of their assistant because "the software can do it!" which isn't necessarily the case.
Professionals get grumpy when all of a sudden software allows people to do things that used to be their 'trick' exclusively.
Old designers complain about Creative Suite, photographers complain about Photoshop/Lightroom/Aperture, music producers complain about Pro Tools and now editors will complain about Final Cut.
Speaking of Quicktime 7 - know anything that adds those features back?

I don't think Wal-Mart makes money on a lot of their DVDs. They sell them at a loss to get people in their stores. If people buy on iTunes, they don't come into Wal-Mart.
15+ dollars for a 15 cent disc with 45 cents in packaging around it shipped for about 95 cents. Walmart is making plenty. Wholesale for new DVDs is about 7 dollars less distribution costs (typically less than a dollar a disc). Older movies I have seen go for as little as 2$ wholesale.

Neat.
I had a surplus of $476B and solved SS 100%. I gutted military, but I bumped up United Nations, alternative energy, education, medical research, and worker re-training.
I also stopped just about all aid flowing out to other countries. I'll let Sally Struthers and the affluent private sector contribute if they want to... that is, if the affluent have anything left after the mondo taxes I dropped on them. :D

I went over a store lately where they sell macs and other stuff like fridges , phones , televisions , pc's , ...
In that store I was interested in the 17" mbp and the salesman said it was the last one they had and they gave a discount of ?200 because they couldn't order a new one.
Then I made the hard choice :( of waiting till the new one comes out.
So only buy when you really need it.:D
