I wonder what breaks more often, the hard drives fitted in the classic or the fragile touch screens of the iPod touch?

I've had two HDD iPods - a 5th gen and a 6th gen - crap out on me within months. This wasn't unexpected since I was using them for long trips on motorcycles and Land Cruisers on crapped out African roads.
I used the original iPhone sans case for the most part for well over two years in fairly harsh environments. A lot of dents and scratches. Broke the glass last year when it fell off of a table onto a concrete floor.
The glass just has to be protected from mishaps and this is fairly easy to do. OTOH, depending on your usage patterns, there's nothing that you can do to prevent your HDD from failing.
Unfortunately, you are probably right. Though it would be nice to see one last revision of the Classic, I have a feeling that this is the end of the line. Also, a good point on the buy used bit. I tend to forget that the Classic is still two years old as is and used models are readily available on eBay, etc.

Well here I go for my very first recall :(
I wonder how long those other batteries (the ones that failed of course) have been running because mine has lasted 2 years without any problems.
Interestingly that my father was telling me about the Dell recall and said that the info he read mentioned Apple. I took him seriously but was going to wait for an Apple recall to be confirmed.
Edit: Well c**p, looks like I shall have to call Apple as my computer is eligible but the battery is not even though it falls within the range.

I don't get the "3D" screen thing???? My regular 1080p TV can play a 3d Movie just fine. The 3D software shared here on MacRumors didn't have any special screen... what the heck would Apple do to make it a 3D screen?

Yeah they will. iTunes works on any Windows or Mac system. They can listen to it on their computer, burn a CD, or even rip that CD back into a format that any player can play, with a minimal quality loss. Besides, anything that discourages consumers from buying a Zune is probably good for consumers :) .
I think the main thing that discourages people from buying a ZUNE is the Zune...
anyway if this Beatles thing works with Apple, it will most likely be a limited time excklusivity 6 months to one year tops and then open to other online sellers.

I agree completely. Is it a crime to actually like both Bach and The Beatles? I must be an aberration or some kind of musical freak, according to certain people in this discussion:D
And it's nice and sunny outside today.
Anyway, good news on the early success of The Beatles- hopefully they can keep selling and laugh in the face of their detractors.
I'm sure there are a lot of us who have very wide musical interests. I usually listen to classical in the morning with my coffee and later--well lots of stuff rock, folk, blue grass, jazz, and yes some Beatles as well--it's all music--it's all good. :)

These white ear budded headphones remind me of the book fahrenheit 451. Soon iPods will now dictate what people read, on top of what people listen to (music, podcasts, audiobook) and what people watch (movies, tv shows).

The internet has no country lines; you arn't racist, but you may possibly be unsensitive to the enviorment in which you are speaking as there are a lot of people who would like to learn the spanish language outside the United States.
Additionally, please remember that although America's most commonly spoken language is English (or several varients of true English), there is no official national language in the United States. The easiest way to make sure that the U.S. stays mainly english (if you want it to) is by simply refusing to do otherwise. Complaining about people who want to learn another language in an atempt to get your point across only makes you look uneducated and rude (and thus is why people would jump to use the term "racist").

I was under the impression that using a negative or positive element behind a lens was the 'magic way around' accommodating less-than-ideal focal lengths/registration distances.
So... if you weren't in fact limited by either the the focal length or thickness of the device wouldn't it be possible to employ a larger sensor and thus pacify all the people earlier in this thread would felt 8mp on the current sized sensor was a retrograde step?
