Interesting how things change, the forum following the iPhone launch couldn't have been any more different;

Amazing how things change over time, from Apple should do gadgets and just focus on computers, to this in less than six years!
Who cares old man, i'm not looking for threads from 6 years ago. this is the evolution of tech. you dont need to keep specifying that things have been talked about in the past. start a recollections thread or something. you;re the what? fifth whos said that? It's annoying. The past is history.

Dude, that's the specs for the current Macbook.
Well, yes and no. The title of the page reads 'Core 2 Duo'. The page also states it's available to pre order, with a release date of the 13th.
Granted, the body of the page refers to the original Core Duo chip, but it's safe to assume that at least Play.com believes they have a new product to sell from the 13th onward.

I reaaally don't think Apple will implement this. It goes against everything they stand for.
every year a new igadget comes out, adn the forums are full of "apple will never produce that *insert complaint* monstrocity, it goes against everything that apple stands for
-Apple likes ergonomic, comfortable experiences. 3D gives people headaches
People spend their lives looking at the world in 3d, so perhaps you should be a bit more specific aboiut the implementation of 3d may cause headaches. Now how does that assumption align to glasses free 3d?
-Apple hates styluses and other mandatory accessories. In most implementations of 3D, you have to wear glasses
Most is a magical word, which is why there is another set of words like glasses-free that is important
-Apple is moving toward high-resolution displays. In many implementations, 3D halves the effective resolution
best of both worlds
-Apple is all about content - high quality software, UI, etc. 3D encourages gimmicks
apple thrives of gimmicks, as longas they have tangible value
-Apple's mobiles have standard-setting battery life. 3D will likely drain batteries - by doubling the rendering requirement, increasing the required backlighting, or by keeping a camera active to track your head.Likely?
"3D" screams of unnecessary spec. There are so many drawbacks and so few benefits. If Apple has yet to implement Blu-ray, it will definitely be awhile before we see 3D.
Unnecessary to who? The only person who cares is the apple boss who signs off the spec in the hopes it will make apple more profit. A touch screened ipod nano is a poiinless spec, but somebody signed if off for production.

Now if we can come to accept that they're are in fact a number of problems within the black community (at least in the United States, I'm not particularly well aware of whats going on in the UK). I think they're are a number of things that can be done to mitigate the problem.
First Social Welfare Programs:
We already have some of these and I'm not particularly well educated on what they provide but these are CRUCIAL. If you don't have a warm place to sleep and food to eat than your odds of being able to improve your situation are basically impossible.
Greater Availability of Birth Control and Education About the Same:
There is a reason that there are so many births happening out of wedlock in this community and you can bet it starts with people not using birth control or using it correctly. I would advocate for a greater availability of condoms and in particular the pill to just about anyone who wants it. No the pill doesn't stop the spread of STD's but I think it's a little more moment of total irresponsibility proof.
It's damn hard to get your life together if you've got a kid and no support system at age 16. And that kid isn't going to have the best opportunities either. If we can significantly reduce the number of un-planned children being born I think we'll have taken a big step towards improving the quality of life in African American communities (immediately and 15 years down the road).
Work With Community Leaders and Role Models
The black community has a bit of an overabundance of role models preaching totally irresponsible behavior (violence, drug use, under age sex). Its no wonder that kids who lack good role models are so inclined towards these same behaviors.
I think it might have an unexpectedly large effect on the black community of these role models could be convinced to change their tone, perhaps a bit less glorification of ****** behavior.
Check out:

Brother Ali (though he's white)
A couple of hip hop artists who are a bit more socially aware.
I have a few more ideas but I'm tired of writing for now so I'll end this post.

I don't think Apple changed their assembly line until week 35. If the serial number of your Mac is less than WH8635, then I don't think it has the new heatsink.
how do i know witch week is my macbook
also the serial number is 4H640203Uxx
so i take it it is less then WH but my doesn't even start with WH anywhere in the serial number line

Well I'm not a MAC expert by any means but here's a thought.
I've built many PCs and none of the heatsinks that ship from AMD or Intel have had heat sensors or wires on them. The only wires are for monitoring the RPM of the fan which is attached to the top of the heatsink.
The CPU has its own temperature monitoring and doesn't depend on the heatsink.
Maybe the thermal sensors on the heatsink are not needed completely or at all? The initial solution, before new firmware was available, was to simply replace the heatsink, but now they can safely ignore the short?

I think there was a quote from Mozart, who obviously didn't know the Beatles, who didn't rank Jesus very high as a composer, but who put Bach ahead of Beethoven.
Mozart must have had an amazing talent of premonition given the time differences involved in what your saying. (Mozart died 7 years before the earliest known date of Beethovens first 6 string quartets).
Beethoven's music was adored when he was alive, Bach only became popular after his death. Bach = Revisionism.
Also, the Jesus thing wasn't THAT subtle?

Stand by and watch, what? What would Gaddafi do to the protesters? They're all armed now so it wouldn't end pleasantly.

I agree. I don't really mind what's going on in Libya.

I am a professional editor. I get paid to edit. I just don't edit giant films. I think there is a little discrediting going on for what makes a professional editor.
I was in a discussion a year ago about all the new features that just got released. In the days of yesteryear, editors (film wise) would cut the film, then once they had a locked picture, they would add audio, color the film, sound effects and score. Those days are long gone.
A year ago during a project, I found myself very angry at the way FCP was functioning given the way editors have to edit today. I have been a big FCP user for years and consider myself very experienced with the software. I refer to the editing style of today (which is also being done in feature film editorial) that you are no longer just the film/video editor. YOU ARE the sound designer, the colorist, the composer, and the technician, at least a basic level.
I feel that 10 years ago you would show a "rough" cut that was 50% done, no audio effects, color, or score, just the cuts and clients were able to get it. However, today I feel that a rough cut needs to look more like 95% done. Many times when I show a client a piece of footage that doesnt look like an almost finished product, they get concerned about the final piece, even when you explain that it is a rough cut.
So now that a lot of editors are having to show cuts that are almost done to get notes, the actual act of editing has become a nightmare to me. I have show basically a finished cut (sounds, scores, titles, overlays, graphics) and then when there is a change, I have to move all of the sounds, scores, titles, overlays, graphics out of the way to make the simplest edit. Half the time, something gets moved that isnt supposed to causing extra work. And I will be honest, sometimes, (which I know we all do....) I say "good enough," because the actual act of moving a giant timeline around is just too painful.
Well not anymore! (hopefully)
I want the freedom that FCPX will hopefully provide.
And of course one final thought. A good editor is a good editor, it is an art. Just because someone is an "expert" on AVID, PP, FCP doesnt mean they are a good editor. Same as someone who knows how to put paint on canvas isn't necessarily Van Gogh.
I think this version will help us tell stories easily and more efficiently. It is still up to the editor what he/she will do with the tool.

Having more distribution points does not increased the supply; it just spreads it out more thinly, making it even harder to locate the few supplies that do exist.
It's called planning ahead.
While there may not be enough ipads right now, as soon as there are enough the distribution is expanded.
I agree with another poster: Positioning for gaming.
In any Apple store the ipads are hogged and blocked by a lot of kids.
They got the idea of what they want:-)
As for where to buy : Who cares? If you get one anyplace that would be great!

Extended warranties aren't always bad though - you think I want to deal with Sling if my Solo goes on the fritz? I was happy to pay a bit extra for the security of knowing I could go back to BB for two years (especially since reviews on Amazon have consistently pointed to issues shortly after the one year mark).
And I definitely wish I'd gotten it for my HDTV whose screen crapped out at 18 mos.

People keep mentioning this.. does anyone have a link to the add that specifically challenges hackers?
No, not a direct challenge. I'm sorry, I was using hyperbole to drive a point home. Apple's not obscure anymore. Even though they control a small portion of the total PC market, I'm seeing more Apple commercials on TV and online than I ever have. They're extremely high visibility now.
And as for the hacker challenge, many believe that the new commercials present a "smug" image of Apple, and one of the commercials specifically touches on the nonexistence of Mac viruses. Now I realize that this is not exactly an open invitation to challenge the OSX 20-ton gorilla, but to some hackers, this does indeed make Apple a target.

Has anyone considered that apple might not be realeasing the wide screen super secret video ipod because it dosn't exist?
lets all think for a second...
1) touch screens are weak, soft, and matte, not iPod at all
2) they get printy and scratched very easily
3) they would go through oodles of batter power
4) Apple would not make the thing bigger just to hold the extra battery
5) battery life would STINK
6) touch screen starts to complicate the interface, goes against apple's easy as pie rule
7) the thing would have to cost a fortune
I have to disagree with 1, 2 and 6.
The screen on my palm (2 years old) is bright, clear and saturated. Gloss finish. Has no scratches yet I "write" on it and DO NOT use a screen protector or a case for it.
As to the interface, we've seen suggestions in the forums here that when touched, the interface that appears could look and act just like the current controls on the iPods.

This makes the iPad a real computer not some parasite that feeds off it's host computer for life.
The iPad, no matter how parasitic it is, is still a real computer.
And wow at all the people "finding problems" with OTA updates. Android has been at it for years on many carriers and with many different data caps in place, rooted phones, phones with custom ROMs, etc.. and yet none of those guys whine about OTA updates. The Apple crowd really needs to get with it. It's optional people, it is for Android, no reason it wouldn't be for iPhone.
Options are good.

While I'm happy that this is probably the reason for the increased battery life, I'm concerned about the life span of the screen. How much of a limited span are we talking about?
Edit: according to wikipedia, 5,000 hrs. For comparison, a typical LCD has a life of 50,000 hrs (30,000 hrs for lamp).
That's an interesting point. I just worked out that if it does last 5000 hours, and you use it for 3 hours a day (which, let's face it, is massively over the time that the screen would be lit for) it would last about 4 and a half years. Or does it mean 5000 hours with the screen being used and not lit?
